SCRIABIN The Poem of Ecstasy
HOLST The Planets (includes HD video)
Blast off to menacing Mars, jolly Jupiter and beyond in this breathtaking feast for the senses! Holst’s beloved sonic odyssey is paired with staggering high-definition footage from recent NASA explorations of our solar system, bringing you up close to the wonders of the galaxy. Renowned Houston Symphony Conductor Emeritus Hans Graf leads this space-themed program which kicks off with music of Ligeti, famously used in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Join conductors and special guests for a free, fun, and lively discussion about the music before each Philharmonics Series concert. Talks start one hour before the concert and end with ample time for you to refresh before the concert begins. Talks are held on the orchestra level of the Eastman Theatre.
