The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.
***A concert performance is a performance in which the primary focus is the music—you will NOT see a fully produced work including costumes, set, and props (hence the lower ticket prices), and you may see actors holding books for certain moments or for the entire concert. Additionally, as music is the primary focus, the band/musicians will usually be featured and visible to the audience so their performance can be enjoyed as well. A concert version will usually include abridgements to the scene or song work, though the story will still be an important piece of the performance. Hence, you should still expect the actors to be emotionally engaged in their scene and song work.***
