Arthur Asher Miller [1915-2005] was an American playwright, essayist, and controversial figure in the twentieth-century American theater. Miller’s most notable works included All My Sons, Death of a Salesman, and The Crucible. BROKEN GLASS, written in 1994, was the last play Miller ever wrote. Many theatre critics believed that Miller used this writing to question his own identity as a Jew, man, husband, father, and even as a playwright. The play is set in Brooklyn November, 1938 as the German Nazis begin the harassment of Jews living in Berlin. This oppression is known as Krystallnacht—Broken Glass.
