*The event has already taken place on this date: Tue, 05/21/2019
Now in its fourth year, this display fills George Eastman’s historic mansion for three weeks in May. Eastman Entertains: At the Movies features beautiful table settings, creatively themed tabletops, and lush floral arrangements inspired by popular film titles and genres. The Dryden Theatre presents three of the titles from this year’s display, including a musical, a comedy, and a drama from Hollywood’s Golden Era.

Eastman Entertains. Vincente Minnelli’s bold, colorful biography of Vincent Van Gogh is anchored by the vibrant performances of Kirk Douglas as Vincent and James Donald as his brother, Theo. Van Gogh, following an unsuccessful preaching career, finds himself drawn to the people of the town and the work that they do, which leads him to find drawing and, ultimately, painting. He is influenced by his relationships with painters Anton Mauve (Noel Purcell) and Paul Gaugin (Anthony Quinn), but the beautiful images he paints belie a struggle with depression. Douglas was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance and Quinn won his second Oscar in five years for his.
