An Important Note From the Farmers.
Farming is never easy even in the best of times. There is nothing more devasting to a farmer than the curve balls Mother Nature can throw. After trimming our lavender to prepare it for winter, many of our plants sustained noticeable winter damage. We have heard from many gardeners and other lavender farmers across the country and Canada that are also experiencing the same loss after this winter’s harsh conditions, in our case WIND.
What’s our plan besides a lot of prayers? Well, you can never keep a true farmer down for long, we have worked hard this Spring carefully pruning plants by hand to encourage new growth by removing dead wood and allowing light and air circulation. We are patiently waiting for some plants to “wake up”, are replanting some lost plants, and are continuing to expand and diversify our flower fields with specialty cut flowers and new sunflower varieties.
Our lavender is rebounding at different rates and we fully expect to offer U-Pick lavender and instruction on how to “revive” your winter-damaged plants. The blooms will be less prolific in some sections of the field but the cutting season might actually be longer this year due to the various stages of recovery.
