One Take Film Festival - Friday

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 04/26/2019
Year 3 of the One Take Documentary Film Festival happens in 2019! This Rochester, NY Film Festival has grown out the Little Theatre's highly successful monthly documentary series that began in 2012. It celebrates and promotes the art of non-fiction filmmaking and stimulates public understanding and appreciation of the documentary film. Over the course of four days (April 25–28), we’ll celebrate the art of documentary filmmaking in its many forms. We seek films that inspire, surprise, challenge, enlighten, and entertain us.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Dennis And Lois - Friday, April 26, 2019 4:00pm
Dennis and Lois met in 1975 at legendary rock club CBGB, bonding over a shared passion for music. More than 40 years later, these aging super fans are still going strong, befriending their favorite musicians, selling band merchandise as volunteers, housing touring rockers in their toy museum-like home and traveling all over to catch live shows. Director Chris Cassidy’s upbeat portrait is about enjoying life at its fullest, with a punk-rock edge.

Now more than ever, the music they love has become the one thing that keeps them going. The gigs, the artists, and the body-jolting road trips are what Dennis and Lois live for. We should all live our lives so fully.

The Brink - Friday, April 26, 2019 6:30pm
When Steve Bannon left his position as White House chief strategist less than a week after the Charlottesville rally in August 2017, he was already a notorious figure in Trump’s inner circle. Unconstrained by an official post, he became free to peddle influence as a perceived kingmaker, turning his controversial brand of nationalism into a global movement.

The Brink is an engaging and enraging, disturbing and highly revealing film that follows Bannon through the 2018 mid-term elections, shedding light on his efforts to mobilize far-right parties in order to win seats in the May 2019 European Parliamentary elections. A keen manipulator of the press and gifted self-promoter, Bannon continues to draw headlines and protests, feeding the powerful myth on which his survival relies.

Jawline - Friday, April 26, 2019 9:15pm
The film follows 16-year-old Austyn Tester, a rising star in the live-broadcast ecosystem who built his following on wide-eyed optimism and teen girl lust, as he tries to escape a dead-end life in rural Tennessee.

In the online-streaming world, Austyn is adored by thousands of young girls, all eager for his “likes,” his attention, or just to hear him say their name. For Austyn and many like him, a big enough fan base could mean a ticket out of rural America and into a new life of wealth and fame – quite the undertaking when you’re coming of age. The film brings audiences into Austyn’s world as he is discovered by a manager and sets off on a U.S. tour to build his following and make his dreams come true.
