Season Opening | Beyond the Nest (Rochester)

Season Opening

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 05/16/2021
The museum is open for the 2021 season! It's fun and educational for the whole family, with vintage trolley cars, steam locomotive, horse-drawn and highway vehicles, huge model railroad and the Midtown Plaza Monorail exhibit. On certain Sundays, trolley rides are offered on a scenic 2-mile round trip (NOTE: check the website for ride days, hours and reservations).

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

The New York Museum of Transportation, in Rush, will reopen with a new schedule of events and trolley rides starting Sunday, May 16. Special event dates and days when trolley rides will operate are listed at the museum's website, www.nymtmuseum.org.

NOTE: In order to abide by COVID-19 regulations, attendance on trolley ride days and special event days is restricted and reservations are required.

The museum houses a collection of 14 trolley cars, several highway and horse-drawn vehicles, three model railroads, the Midtown Plaza Monorail, and numerous exhibits celebrating the transportation history of the area. In the gallery a video presents the Rochester Subway in color, and a gift shop caters to the needs of all ages and interests.

On trolley ride days and on special event days, visitors experience the interurban era of a century ago as their trolley car winds its way on a 20-minute round trip through scenic countryside. The air whistle and the clickety-clack on the rails bring back a time when trolley cars provided fast, clean service connecting upstate New York cities.

For the safety of our visitors and staff, masks are required in the museum and on the ride. The full museum COVID-19 Procedure Statement can be found on the museum website.
