The program explores the creative means through which composers have reached outside of the Western art music tradition in order to enrich their musical voices. The works featured on this program – Zoltan Kodaly’s Duo Sonata for violin and cello, Zachary Cairns’ Passing Through for string trio and alto sax, and Paul Schoenfield’s Café Music piano trio – demonstrate the ways in which composers throughout the last century have infused classical chamber music with elements of folk music and jazz.
Featuring: Molly McDonald, violin; Cora Swenson Lee, cello; Aika Ito, viola; Zach Stern, saxophone; Gloria Engle, piano
Admission at the door is $10 per person, with a $20 family maximum. A “meet the artists” reception follows the concert.
The Spotlight on Faculty concert series is generously supported by Hochstein donors. It is also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
