SPRING AWAKENING, an alt-rock musical based on the play by Frank Wedekind, is a winner of eight Tony Awards, including best musical. Deemed confrontational and controversial, the piece is adult in nature and wrestles with teen struggles around physical and emotional maturation. It is Germany, 1891, following the lives of school adolescents - headstrong Melchior, innocent Wendla, and troubled Moritz, exploring the turbulence of budding sexuality in a powerful celebration of teen rebellion.
