*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 06/21/2019
Sand Mandalas last for just a short time, but the images and messages cling to the emotions for years. Experience the beauty of this meditative art with local artist Katie Jo Suddaby.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Visit each day, June 17th-21st as Katie Jo "paints" an homage to LGBTQ advances using thousands of grains of colorful sand. At the close of the library's "Stonewall, 50 Years Out" exhibit, on July 20th, the image will be brushed away in a ceremony to celebrate the next 50 years of expansion for LGBTQ rights. Watch the image form: Monday, June 17th- Friday, June 21st, from 2pm-5:30pm each day. Dissolution Ceremony: Saturday, July 20th at 12noon.

Katie Jo Suddaby holds a BA in Religion and Philosophy and an MDiv from Colgate Rochester Crozier Divinity School. She is ordained through the American Baptist Churches, USA and received her artistic training in Kathmandu, Nepal, as well as from monks in Rochester, NY. She teaches sand painting classes and speaks nationally on the history and philosophy of Tibetan Mandala Art. Katie Jo often uses her art to bring attention to injustices and inequalities and to bring healing to those effected by loss. When not sand painting, she directs a free grocery store: The South Wedge Food Program, and helps curate grassroots knowledge at a local tech start up: The Community Learning Lab.
