Using simple methods and construction, participants will learn fundamentals of backyard composting and worm composting in limited spaces.

No matter the space, urban dwellers can compost kitchen and yard waste. Using simple methods and construction, participants will learn fundamentals of backyard composting and worm composting in limited spaces. This class offers hands on activities, demonstrations, and discussions relevant for anyone who wants to learn. Bring ideas, questions, and excitement and you can even go home with your own worms to jump start your bin!

Please note: Class will be held at Seedfolk City Farm’s Greenhouse Cafe farm site at 2271 E. Main St. Rochester, NY 14609 (park on-street on E. Main St).

About the teacher:
Amber Powers is a passionate supporter of the environmental justice movement in Rochester, NY. She holds degrees in Urban Planning and Teaching English as a Second Language from UB and Nazareth and works as an ESOL teacher for the city school district. At home, she’s an avid gardener and composter. At Seedfolk City Farm, Amber supports educational programming and is working to develop a small-scale urban composting site at 55 Plover Street.
Seedfolk City Farm is an urban farm and youth education nonprofit in Rochester, NY. We believe that to build resilient urban communities, we must equip each other with the skills and knowledge necessary to create a healthy, localized community food system. Seedfolk City Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
