The George Eastman Museum is delighted to announce the forthcoming exhibition, Scene at Eastman, which will open through April 20, 2025. The exhibition will comprise a set of photographs and sculptures made in aluminum, glass, concrete, paper, tin, and other materials. The photographs and sculptures in Scene at Eastman (“the works”) describe various acts and instances of apprehension, of address, of attendance to the presence of others. Some objects are original, others appropriated. The viewer’s own private practice of looking is solicited by the works. Viewers are alerted to the presence of cameras within the exhibition space: to enter the galleries is to be observed.

Big Wigs is a high-energy, Las Vegas-style show featuring Mrs. Kasha Davis from RuPaul’s Drag Race and Rochester legend Aggy Dune. These two outrageous talents continue to deliver their dead-on impressions to sold-out crowds all over the country. This fast-paced show includes all your favorite divas like Shirley Bassey, Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland, Reba McEntire, Cher, Bette Midler, Lady Gaga, and Tina Turner.

Going for Baroque is a weekly series of mini-recitals at the Memorial Art Gallery, offered each Sunday at 1:30 PM and again at 3:00 PM. It offers the opportunity for students from the Eastman School of Music to perform alongside professional musicians on the Italian Baroque organ on the second floor of the museum. The 25-minute mini-recital is included with museum admission.

Eastman students, faculty, and alumni present a 25-minute lunchtime concert at Christ Church every Tuesday. Performances feature the Craighead-Saunders Organ and Hook & Hastings Organ. Each free program begins at 12:10 p.m.

When Nina Simone heard that four Black girls had been killed in the bombing of the 16th Avenue Church in Birmingham, Alabama, her first impulse was to try and build a zip gun; instead she channeled her rage into “Mississippi Goddamn,” the song that marked the emergence of Nina Simone, the Civil Rights activist. Infused with traditional hymns along with songs including “Four Women,” “I Loves You, Porgy,” and “Young, Gifted and Black,” Nina Simone: Four Women looks at an artist and the women around her as their journey leads them down a path of discovery and healing.

The Musicale: "Performance Plus" concert on Sunday, January 19 will feature Katherine Cheng on violin, Ethan Blake on cello, and Shangru Du on piano. The group will perform Astor Piazzolla's Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Nick Anderson, a PhD student in Musicology from the Eastman School of Music, will host.

The Eastman School of Music and the Beal Institute of Film Music and Contemporary Media present Visual Music 7.0, featuring current Beal Institute students in a live-to-picture staging of their original compositions to accompany the 1928 silent film Laugh, Clown, Laugh, starring Lon Chaney and Loretta Young. Admission is free and open to the public.
