Until photographic processes were introduced during the last decade of the 19th Century, illustrations were printed from copper or wood engravings. In this workshop, participants will gain understanding of the process of carving and printing a simple design. To help ensure success for inexperienced engravers, the workshop will substitute linoleum for wood. Each student will engrave their own design.

Going for Baroque is a weekly series of mini-recitals at the Memorial Art Gallery, offered each Sunday at 1:30 PM and again at 3:00 PM. It offers the opportunity for students from the Eastman School of Music to perform alongside professional musicians on the Italian Baroque organ on the second floor of the museum. The 25-minute mini-recital is included with museum admission.

Sunday, Sept 13 at 2pm: Explore what’s growing in the Museum vegetable gardens with expert gardener, Emily Conable. Learn the history of heirloom vegetables, growing conditions required, and how to store properly (i.e., root cellaring). Right next door to the Rush Fall Festival, Saturday, September 19, the New York Museum of Transportation and the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum will be offering a rare treat: ride a vintage trolley car and transfer to a real freight train for a rare and unique experience. The only place in the country with two rail museums connected by a ride! Trolleys depart throughout the day, and the fare is $15 per person, free to kids age 4 and under.

Saturday, September 19, 2026: Enjoy a day of folk music at the 55th Annual Turtle Hill Folk Festival, presented by the Golden Link Folk Singing Society at The Historic German House, 315 Gregory St, in Rochester, NY. Miles Davis Animated brings the music of Miles Davis’ groundbreaking 1950s–60s era to life with a creative twist: animated visuals, expressive tap dance, and a powerhouse ensemble of performers. Audiences will be visually transported by larger-than-life cartoon illustrations from Dave Chisholm’s acclaimed graphic novel Miles Davis and the Search for the Sound. These evocative visuals, paired with bold musical improvisation and kinetic tap rhythms, create a multi-sensory experience that honors Miles’ artistry while reinventing it for new generations. Classic works from Miles Davis’ legendary catalog are interpreted by a stellar ensemble including trumpeter and cartoonist Dave Chisholm, pianist Greg Woodsbie, saxophonist Colin Gordon, bassist David Arenius, and drummer Aaron Staebell. Tap dancers Cheryl Johnson and Laurie Coles will animate the music with percussive rhythm and emotional nuance, transforming the stage into a living, breathing soundscape.

Fresh off the streaming release of her comedy special Muddin', Rochester native Madelein Murphy returns home for a high-energy hour of stand-up comedy. Murphy has spent more than a decade performing internationally in comedy clubs, colleges and cruise ships, and local audiences may remember her opening for comedy icon Tig Notaro during the 2023 Rochester Fringe Festival.
