Commotion Dance Theater brings new work to MuCCC in a program that includes live music, dance, theater and poetry. Performances are Wednesday, June 11 through Friday, June 13 at 8 pm, at MuCCC, 142 Atlantic Avenue, Rochester, 14607. Tickets are $10 - $25 and are available in advance at muccc.org and at the door.

Ruben T. Ornelas will offer solos and duets to live music performed by pianist Kevin Wang, violinist Cynthia Qiyue He, and cellist Esther Rogers Baker. According to Ornelas, “Our dance concert will feature music by three important 20th century composers, Zoltán Kodály, Olivier Messiaen, and Eugène Ysaÿe. This is a special treat because we rarely get to dance to live music played by such talented musicians.”

Laurie MacFarlane will present two new works. “Like White Hair” is a solo set to a poem by Bob Hart. “Lost and Found” is a quartet that brings together movement, song, and text in a piece filled with laughter, surprise, and shadow.

Performers include Laura D’Amico, Nanako Horikawa Mandrino, Joshua Lang, Nico Malijan, Matt McClure, Joanna Rodriguez, Donetta Tchoroleev, Ishmael Walker, and MacFarlane.

Commotion Dance Theater specializes in multi-disciplinary, movement-based works, offering “a light-hearted performance that required zero effort to enjoy” and “a very different type of dance performance” (City Magazine). Under the direction of long-time creative partners Laurie MacFarlane and Ruben T. Ornelas, Commotion has appeared locally in the Rochester Fringe Festival, at MuCCC, the Avon Opera House, Writers and Books, and the Karpeles Manuscript Museum in Buffalo.

This project is made possible in part with funds from the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts Aid to Localities program.

Tickets to Commotion Dance Theater are available in advance at muccc.org or at the door.
