In this class you will learn one of the oldest forms of printmaking-Woodblock Carving; a relief method, where wood is carved away to create an image. Students will watch demonstrations on each step--Creating an image, transferring the image to a wood block, carving and hand printing. You will then create your own wood block, carve it out and print. Students will leave class with prints worthy of framing! No experience necessary- beginners & intermediates welcome.
Please note: All of the class supplies will be provided for you- Wood blocks, carving tools, paper and ink. Please come to class with ideas for your block! If you have your own tools or paper please feel free to bring them to class!
About the teacher:
Ashley Rehler graduated from SUNY Oswego in 2011 with a BFA in graphic design. At Oswego Ashley fell in love with printmaking. She found her graphic design classes to be great fun, but found greater pleasure in “happy accidents” and the inability to erase a mistake with printmaking. She works for a local media company by day and creates wedding stationary by night. Ashley enjoys the outdoors, chocolate, her two dogs and her loving family.
