The Amish Project is a fictional exploration of the October 2nd, 2006 Nickel Mines schoolhouse shooting in an Amish community, and the path of forgiveness and compassion forged in its wake. In this stunning tour-de-force, a single actress plays a host of characters in an Amish community devastated by a terrible tragedy. From a convenience store worker to the gunman himself, each character comes to life — those trapped in cycles of grief or rage, and those who have a truly unexpected reaction. When tragedy occurs, humans are often confronted with the difficult choice to forgive and overcome any self-inflicted pain or hold onto anger and prolong suffering. Jessica Dickey's The Amish Project, presented by the Hummingbird Theatre Co., demonstrates the complex power dynamic at play when overcoming personal offenses.
