Anomaly - The Rochester Genre Film Festival
*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 11/10/2019
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Our team of organizers consists of local film critics, festival runners, filmmakers, designers, and artists... and every single one of us is (almost scarily) passionate about sharing, supporting, and advocating for these films.
What kind of movies are you showing?
We are dedicated to showcasing and supporting independent genre films and the amazing artists who make them. These are the movies that refuse to be contained by the categories of “comedy” and “drama,” or exist in the shadowy boundaries between, such as: horror, science fiction, fantasy, action, dark comedy, and the truly indescribable. We hope to be able to broaden our audience’s minds, and maybe awaken some forgotten demons.
Where & when are your screenings?
Short and feature films will screen at the Cinema Theater (957 South Clinton Ave, Rochester, NY 14620) over 3 days:
Friday, November 8 — 6:30pm-11:30pm
Saturday November 9 — 10:15am-11:00pm
Sunday, November 10 — 11:00am-9:30pm
Browse the full festival lineup for all 10 features and 20 short films!
Why a film festival?
Showcases for original genre films are needed now more than ever before. These are the films that inhabit our imaginations, shape our dreams, and reflect our reality, and they are harder and harder to experience in a theatrical setting. There’s a special magic that comes from sitting in the dark with a group of strangers, ready to experience a new wonder or horror together. And we want to be the fuel that keeps it burning in the hearts of genre movie lovers as we search out the new favorites yet to be found — the new cult canon possibilities yet to be experienced.
Community-focused
Anomaly is committed to supporting and championing the Rochester community as a hub for smart, passionate filmgoing audiences, both in and out of a movie theater.
• We are thrilled to be screening at the Cinema Theater, the oldest movie theater in Rochester, and one that shares our mission of promotion and involvement in the local community: the Cinema’s concession stand is entirely vegan, and it partners with animal rescue agencies to support adoption efforts.
• Anomaly is entirely volunteer-run and operated, with organizers bringing experience from a variety of industries including festival production, telecommunications, newsmedia, the arts, and more.
