Society for Chamber Music in Rochester continues its 41st season with A Couple of Couples a chamber music concert and wine tasting on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 4:00 pm at Performance Hall at Hochstein School of Music and Dance.
ROCHESTER, NY, 19 February 2018 - Society for Chamber Music in Rochester’s (SCMR) continues its 41st season with A Couple of Couples, which features classical music and a wine tasting. In addition, audience members will enjoy an inside look at the repertoire with a pre-concert talk by Artistic Directors and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) Musicians Juliana Athayde and Erik Behr.
Athayde and Behr explain “The palpable extra dimension of connection when hearing and watching couples play music together was the inspiration behind inviting Phil Ying and Keiko Ying, as well as Ahrim Kim and Robin Scott to play this concert.”
The concert includes Anton Arensky’s stunning Quartet for Violin, Viola and Two Cellos, which is dedicated to the memory of Tchaikovsky and features a depth of sonority reflective of Arensky’s sadness at the loss of his friend and mentor. This unique combination and instrumentation of couples provides the perfect opportunity to hear this rich work. The concert features Maurice Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello and Paul Wianko’s American Haiku, a thrilling work for viola and cello by a gifted cellist and rising star in the composition world. The first half concludes with the effervescent and vivacious String Trio by Jean Francaix.
SCMR is pleased to continue complimentary wine tastings at intermission. The pre-concert talk is at 3:30pm and the performance begins at 4:00pm.
