Ruben T. Ornelas’ dances highlight the music of Mexican and European composers performed live by musicians Kevin Wang, Cynthia Qiyue He, and Esther Rogers Baker. Laurie MacFarlane will present a solo set to a story by the late, great John W. Borek, and a trio which features 37 red objects and an original sound score by Dan Farkas. Dancers include Alaina Olivieri, Nanako Horikawa Mandrino, Ryley St. Rose-Finear, and Nico Malijan.
Other performances in the Dance Theater x 3 series include Daystar: Contemporary Dance Drama of Indian America on Wednesday, June 3 and Friday, June 5 and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by Coffee Stain Dance Theatre on Saturday, June 6 at 11 am and 2 pm and Sunday, June 7 at 2 pm.
Choreographer Laurie MacFarlane says, “This series of performances shows the incredible variety of dance theater, from Daystar’s work rooted in Native American culture; to Commotion’s inventive and engaging dances; to Coffee Stain’s ballet-based children’s theatre. There is truly something for everyone during this week!”
