Instructor: Alex Sanchez

Masters at writing dialogue can create magical, unique voices across dozens of characters, each distinct, memorable, and alive. Through readings, discussions, and writing exercises, we’ll explore how voice differs from dialogue; how to use rhythm, diction, and style to develop distinct voices; and how the words characters speak reveal emotions, psychology, and desires.

Alex Sanchez has published eight novels with Simon & Schuster, including the American Library Association “Best Book for Young Adults” Rainbow Boys and Lambda Award- winning So Hard to Say. His novel Bait won the Tomas Rivera Mexican-American Book Award and the Florida Book Award Gold Medal. His full-length graphic novel for DC Comics You Brought Me the Ocean comes out in June. He has a master’s in counseling, worked for many years as a youth and family counselor, and now works as an author, teacher, and freelance developmental editor. www.AlexSanchez.com
