This class will expose students to the traditional art of water color painting using the three main kinds of water color paints: stains, transparents, and opaques, as well as the appropriate paper, and brushes needed to achieve fine-quality watercolor results.
This class will teach students a basic understanding of how and when to use the three types of tube paints, the appropriate amount of water to use depending on the desired result, and how to apply layers of paint to achieve different kinds of effects. Techniques covered include washes, tinting, wet in wet, dry brush, and lifting.
The class will start with a 30-45 minute demo period that outlines the principles of watercolor painting, how color layering works, and how to get started. The remaining 2 hours will be reserved for students to work on their paintings with periodic individual guidance from the instructor.
Students should bring a visual that they would like to paint, preferably something abstract like a landscape picture, or plant or other natural object.
