Jesus Christ Superstar (DCP): Ted Neeley Farewell Tour - George Eastman Museum
After starring roles in HAIR (1969) and The Who's Tommy (1972), Texas-born Ted Neeley began his run as Jesus of Nazareth on Broadway and then in the Universal Amphitheatre production in Los Angeles. Director Norman Jewison was in search of his two leads for his film adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar, which was set to shoot in Israel. Jewison took a chance with Neeley and Carl Anderson as the other lead, Judas. Since the film's release, Neeley has starred in multiple North American and European tours as Jesus and has performed the role over 5,000 times.
