Night on Bald Mountain

An evening of Russian fire and French luster also features a fiendish favorite by Mussorgsky and Debussy’s airy, luminous reveries of drifting clouds and sirens’ songs.

Marcelo Lehninger, guest conductor
Andrei Ionita, cello

RAVEL  Mother Goose Suite
SHOSTAKOVICH  Cello Concerto No. 1
MUSSORGSKY  Night on Bald Mountain

International Tchaikovsky Competition winner Andrei Ionita has been dubbed “one of the most exciting cellists to have emerged for a decade” (The Times). Be there as this 23-year-old sensation makes his North American concert debut with a barn burner by Shostakovich.

Join conductors and special guests for a free, fun, and lively discussion about the music before each Philharmonics Series concert. Talks start one hour before the concert and end with ample time for you to refresh before the concert begins. Talks are held on the orchestra level of the Eastman Theatre.
