Rochester Community Players Opens 101st Season With The Odd Couple (Female Version) by Neil Simon Rochester Community Players begins its 101st season in January 2026 with Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple (Female Version). In this laugh-filled comedy directed by Mary Krickmire, Olive Madison and Florence Ungar are certainly an “odd couple”—two women with very different personalities. As they face sometimes funny complications of friendship, challenges of difficult divorces, and often hilarious consequences of dating again, their lives may not be easy but they are definitely entertaining! Simon’s The Odd Couple premiered on Broadway in March 1965 and its two male characters, Oscar Madison and Felix Unger, were soon in a successful 1968 film version as well. In the 1970s, the characters scored again in a television series. In 1985, Neil Simon adapted his popular play to a female version that also became a hit with audiences. Rochester Community Players staged his original The Odd Couple play in 1968 and the female version in November 1988 with Mary Krickmire playing Olive and Peggy Mayer as Florence. Now as director of the female version Krickmire says, “Simon’s play is reminiscent of the popular, laugh-a-minute TV sit-coms in the 1960s with humor coming from situations, physical comedy, verbal exchanges, and even facial expressions. Audiences can also anticipate what will be happening at times, even before they find themselves laughing!” Performances of The Odd Couple (Female Version) are at the Multi-use Community Cultural Center (MuCCC), 142 Atlantic Avenue in Rochester. Evening shows at 7:30 p.m. are January 23, 24 (ASL interpreted), 29, 30 and 31. Sunday, January 25, is a matinee performance at 2:00 p.m. Tickets at $25 general admission, $20 seniors, and $15 ages 25 and under can be purchased in advance at www.muccc.org or at the door before each performance.
