Rochester Fringe Festival at Eastman - Barbara B. Smith World Music Series: Varemba: Mbira Music of Zimbabwe

Experience the dynamic sounds of the Zimbabwean mbira dzavadzimu, or “mbira of the ancestral spirits.” Varemba brings Toronto-based musicians Moyo Mutamba and Memory Makuri together with Eastman faculty member Jennifer Kyker for an evening of lively mbira music, singing, percussion and dance. In performance, Varemba brings to life the musical spirit of ubuntu, a Zimbabwean philosophy that emphasizes our shared humanity.
