The Rochester Oratorio Society’s (ROS) Arts Connexions Festival invites the
community to a free, three‑day exploration of 250 years of America’s evolving
story—expressed through music, history, and the voices that continue to shape our understanding of freedom. Different events on June 24, 25, and 28 at various locations.

Rochester Oratorio Society's Arts Connexions Festival: Day 2
On Thursday, June 25, at 7 pm, the Arts Connexions Festival continues with "Harlem Renaissance Revisited," a vocal recital featuring lyric coloratura soprano and Rochester native X’Zaya Ivy with pianist Kevin Nitsch, illuminating the artistry and cultural force of America’s Harlem Renaissance.
The Harlem Renaissance encompassed poetry and prose, painting and sculpture, jazz and swing, opera and dance. What united these diverse art forms was their realistic presentation of what it meant to be black in America, what writer Langston Hughes called an “expression of our individual dark-skinned selves,” as well as a new militancy in asserting their civil and political rights.
