Sashiko: “Core & Essence” and “Application & Practice”

Workshop participants will learn the most important element of Sashiko, Needle Movement, in this 3-day workshop taught by third-generation Sashiko artist Atusushi Fatatsuya, then stitch on their favorite garment. The workshop is held at Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY.

Instructor Atusushi Fatatsuya will share his Sashiko practice in 3-days of intensive stitching. In the first 6 hours of the workshop, he will introduce the most important element in Sashiko Stitching – Unshin (Needle Movement). The “Application & Practice” includes stitching on your favorite garment, Hitomezashi, Mending, and learning/practicing throughout the process of Sashiko we practice. Fatatsuya is the third generation of a surviving sashiko family in Gifu prefecture, Japan. INSTRUCTOR: Atusushi Fatatsuya DATES: Oct. 6-8, 2023, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. COST: $450 for Schweinfurth members, $460 for nonmembers. There is a $150 supply fee for this workshop that will be paid to the instructor directly.
