Studio Z is a not-for-profit student theatre company offering a one-of-a-kind training experience for students with a passion for the performing arts. Our programs are structured with a focus on technique and professionalism, preparing students to advance to the next level in an environment that is carefully balanced between high expectations and attentive, well-designed support. We aim to develop our students artistically, emotionally, and intellectually, so that they graduate from our program with a lifelong interest and applicable ability in the performing and/or technical theatre arts.

What is Studio Z?

At Studio Z Performing Arts Conservatory, we do more than just put on a show.

We offer a comprehensive theatre arts education that students can take into the real world.

TRAIN - Our class structure is designed to reflect a collegiate model. Students are offered classes on topics from acting technique to stage craft & design to directing and everything in between. Our classes are divided by level of difficulty and specificity, with the idea that a student will progress through the levels from grades 6 through 12. Theatre arts training fosters self-confidence, focus, empathy and a strong sense of community, and there is so much to be learned outside of a rehearsal setting, which is why we require all of our Mainstage performers to take at least one class. In addition to training actors, we are proud to be a home for students with an interest in stage crew or any other off-stage job, as we know that there are so many ways to be involved in the performing arts that don't include performing!

Studio Z now also offers live online training from our Artists-in-Residence, local and worldwide industry professionals in various areas of expertise.  You can learn from the best in the comfort of your own home!  Using web-based conferencing technology, students of all ages and level of study can talk directly with their instructor in an interactive online setting.  Lessons can also be recorded so you can refer back and review what you have learned.  These lessons are available in 7-week group sessions or on a one-to-one basis. We have also recently partnered with BOOM: Broadway Official Online Mastersclass which also offers direct instruction through leading Broadway professionals.

LEAD - Theatre kids make great leaders and we love to be able to channel that with our internship program. Our interns can shadow any adult staff in their area of interest and learn what it takes to work as a professional theatre artist. Students will take on real responsibilities, including creating, designing, teaching, managing, and decision-making. Interns will gain experience that they can put on their resumes!

PERFORM - At Studio Z, we pride ourselves on the quality of our productions. We want our students and audiences alike to experience what theatre art is at the professional level. Our Mainstage productions always use full costumes and sets, innovative lighting and sound design, and you will see and hear live musicians. In addition to our full-scale productions which happen once a year, our classes are offered both Fall and Spring semesters, and we offer in-person and online summer camps, all of which culminate in a finished performance product. Studio Z has also brought show choirs to local festivals and other regional performance venues.
