Summer Programs at Eastman Community Music School

There are many opportunities at Eastman for Summer programs and camps! Adventure Music Camp Spend a week at Eastman making music with people just like you- who love playing, learning, and creating, all in a supportive and fun environment. This is an exciting day camp (commuting students) for students entering grades 5-9 (current grades 4-8) that combines the best of ECMS’s half-day programs into one engaging musical week. We meet daily, Monday through Friday, from 9am – 4pm with activities that include ensemble rehearsals (band and string orchestra), theory in motion (musicianship class with movement), electronic music (using apps and computer programs to create music and enhance practice time), composition, and improvisation. On our final day, we will show off the results of our adventures to friends and family in a performance! https://summer.esm.rochester.edu/course/adventure-music-camp/ High School Wind Ensemble Workshop This five-day intensive Wind Ensemble Workshop is for students currently in grades 8–12. Students graduating from high school in Spring 2018 can enroll at no cost. In addition, college students who reside in the Rochester area and are music majors or minors may enroll in the class without cost to assist and perform with the students. The class is offered to Level 5 and 6 NYSSMA soloists on all wind, brass, and percussion instruments. A concert on Friday evening will represent the culmination of the week’s exploration of some contemporary and traditional works for wind ensemble or symphonic band. Instrumentation may be limited in certain sections, so early enrollment is encouraged. https://summer.esm.rochester.edu/course/high-school-wind-ensemble-workshop/ Eastman New Horizons Orchestra Camp Spend three days making music and enjoying leisure time with new and old New Horizons friends at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY. This orchestra camp is designed for adult string, woodwind brass, and percussion players performing at an intermediate skill level or higher. Rehearsal sessions will consist of full orchestra, string orchestra, sectionals, and classes of special interests. Eastman Experience: Summer Jazz Studies This rigorous two-week program provides an intensive, performance-based experience for highly motivated students currently in grades 9–12 and is ideally suited for those considering jazz studies at the collegiate level. Students work directly with the renowned Eastman School of Music jazz faculty in a program designed to enhance improvisational and ensemble skills. https://summer.esm.rochester.edu/course/summer-jazz-studies/ Eastman Experience: Summer Classical Studies This internationally acclaimed Classical Studies program is for academically inquisitive performers, conductors and composers currently in grades 9–12 who are seriously considering a career in music. Our highly individualized program emphasizes solo performance (strings, winds, brass, piano, voice, classical guitar, harp, conducting, and composition).
