Dr. David Stein, PsyD
"Supporting Positive Behavior in Children
and Teens With Down Syndrome"
9:00am - 1:45pm
Radisson Hotel Utica Centre
200 Genesee Street, Utica, NY 13501
His clinical work is focused on neuropsychological testing and behavior therapy with children who have neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Stein's research is focused on accurate phenotyping of complex and comorbid neurodevelopmental conditions, factors affecting long-term outcomes, and quality improvement. He specializes in supporting positive behavior in people with Down syndrome and their families who deal with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Behavior Problems, Learning Disorders, and Prenatal Genetics.
Dr. Stein has a new book published by Woodbine House entitled "Supporting Positive Behavior in Children and Teens with Down Syndrome." This seminar will address the topics in Dr. Stein's book by examining how the brain of a person with Down syndrome works, how those differences impact behavior, and why bad behavior should not be viewed as a willful act. This seminar will provide parents, teachers and caregivers with a new awareness to help them be proactive and not reactive, consistent, use visual schedules, token rewards, keep gut reactions in check, teach peers and siblings to ignore bad behavior, and learn effective disciplinary techniques. When Dr. Stein's strategies are followed consistently, children and teens with DS do their best behaviorally and
parent-child/ teacher-student relationships remain positive and loving.
