The Sport of Table Tennis for Juniors

Table Tennis originated in Victorian England in the mid 1800’s and became more widely popular in the very early 1900’s. In 1988 it became an Olympic Sport in the Summer Games. It has grown to be one of the largest participation sports throughout the world.

The age of 8-18 is an excellent time for children to learn this lifelong sport. It is easier for younger children to learn proper technique: the racket and ball are light and playing the sport produces comparatively less pronounced impacts on growing bodies and joints.

Matches are short, rallies are fast paced and the sport often prioritizes quickness and intellect over strength. This engages younger players, and it is possible for a wider range of children to reach a higher level of proficiency than with other sports, which may require more strength or physical stature.

A well-rounded game requires constructing strategies, which may require multiple tactical changes and adjustments during a single match. This exercises ones mental agility, making the sport is an excellent way for younger children to learn competitive skills in a game-like friendly environment.
