This year's summer reading theme is "Unearth a Story," focusing on dinosaurs, geology, and other prehistoric topics. Listen to Archaeologist Justin Tubiolo discuss the loss of historical structures around Monroe County. The ongoing disappearance of nineteenth-century structures deprives future generations from viewing former environments and understanding their town’s history. It is ironic that loss of historical structures continues during an era when historical restoration is well-appreciated, especially with the upcoming Celebration of America's 250th. Mr. Tubiolo will discuss a few examples of lost sites around Monroe County, where he started background studies for anticipated fieldwork, but was later denied access as structures were demolished, the land graded and developed.
