Try your hand at operating a railroad velocipede on the tracks at the New York Museum of Transportation. Nowadays, railroads patrol and inspect their miles-long tracks with hi-rail pickup trucks and elaborate rail inspection vehicles. But in the 1800s, the work was all manual. 3-wheeled velocipedes were used by railroad supervisors and track inspectors over the long miles of track, and it sure beat walking! On Sunday, July 26, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. museum visitors will be allowed to try their hand at operating our 1890s velocipede. Under careful supervision, you take a seat, grab the handles, and row your way up the line. Adults and kids are welcome!
It's all included with admission, along with a full museum of vintage trolley cars, model railroads, road and horse drawn vehicles, the Midtown Plaza Monorail, and delightful 2-mile round-trip trolley rides on a 100 year-old trolley car!
