Do you have Russian friends or co-workers, or are you planning a trip to Eastern Europe/Central Asia? Many countries in the region use Russian -- or other languages written with the Cyrillic script. In the first hour of the class you will learn to read the Russian alphabet, building on the similarities between Russian and English letters and emphasizing international words. We will then learn greetings and basic questions and simple conversations in Russian.
About the teacher:
Originally from Russia, Maria Guzenko holds a degree in translation from Kent State University, where she has taught Russian, as well. Maria currently runs the Rochester Russian Language Club, which meets twice a month. An avid language learner herself, she hopes to help English speakers get over their fear of non-Latin alphabets. When she's not managing corporate translation projects, she can be found taking photos or in the audience of local open mics. Find more information on Maria's background and professional interests at intorussian.net.
