Carnival of the Animals
*The event has already taken place on this date: Tue, 08/27/2024
Enjoy after hours admission to the Zoo for the whole family while three musical pieces about animals are performed by Cordancia and BIODANCE as you stroll the paths and come face to face with the animals living in conservation care.
A beloved and entertaining classic, Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals is a musical portrait of animals including a lion, elephant and swan. Rochester storyteller Jay Stetzer joins musicians and dancers with his own humorous take on a text by Ogden Nash.

Inspired by One Hundred Frogs by Hiroaki Sato, in Five Frogs for Woodwind Quintet, Jenni Brandon lets each of these five very different instruments (flute/piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn) represent an aspect of a frog: leaping, contemplating while sitting on a lily pad, bullfrog, swimming and catching bugs.
In Ten Thousand Birds by John Luther Adams, musicians play the calls of multiple birds in an evocative tapestry of sound and movement. The artists move around and interact with the living space around them while listeners are invited to wander through the performance area for a unique sonic and visual experience.
Tickets include admission to all of Seneca Park Zoo from 6-9 pm as well as music from Cordancia Chamber Orchestra, dance by BIODANCE, refreshments for purchase including beer and wine, and a one-of-a-kind evening of performance for the whole family.
Note: the event was originally scheduled for June 18, 2024 but was postponed due to extreme heat. Tickets previously purchased will be honored.
