Do you enjoy bird watching? Join the world in observing and connecting to birds as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count 2026!
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event where experienced and novice birders alike come together to document and share bird sightings in their communities. Bird enthusiasts on every continent will be watching birds this winter weekend, counting each species they observe, and of course submitting their data.
Join Audubon Naturalists as we count waterbirds and land birds throughout the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. Ducks, geese, eagles, and sparrows are some of the birds we expect to see as they spend their winter on our wetlands. We will also walk participants through how to submit our findings so you can submit your own backyard count! We will begin at the Montezuma Audubon Center and caravan to various marsh units within the complex. Stopping and birding for at least 15 mins at each location.
Tickets may be purchased at the door on the day of the program. Restrooms are only available at the center and will not be available once the tour begins. Our van has a limited capacity of 7 guests, but we can support an unlimited number of additional vehicles. If you do choose to follow behind the van please register for each person in your car. We do have a discounted ticket for "full cars" (4+ passengers). A Zoom link will be provided the morning of so all guests can listen to our naturalist.
Please note there may be minimal walking to viewing platforms depending on the route taken. Locations that require walking have flat, grassy trails.
Binoculars will be available for guests to borrow regardless of ticket option.
This program is great for all ages! The rate for children and adults is the same.
