Intro to Video Journalism Part 2: Telling Stories

This class will focus on the heart of the documentary: telling the story. The instructor will show an example of his work (and some work that inspires him) and outline what makes a basic documentary story. The course will discuss how to tell stories visually (composition) as well as how to conduct interviews and the types of questions to can ask to help people tell their stories to you. He worked as a member of Americorps for city recreation, got to know the city and combined his interest for filmmaking with his passion for the community. Alex films and edits a variety of documentaries under the name Studio 73 Productions, and prefers to focus on journalistic style shorts. (vimeo.com/studio73productions). This past year Alex was commissioned to produce a documentary for the Greentopia film festival, and recently filmed the 2015 Jazz Festival.
