With the Seneca Art & Culture Center now open, Friends of Ganondagan is hosting its first Native American Winter Arts Show, Saturday, December 5 from 10 am – 4 pm, offering shopping, traditional food, workshops, storytelling, children’s crafts, and a silent auction.
This is a unique opportunity to experience various elements of Haudenosaunee culture while finding one-of-a kind, handcrafted items at all price points, created by Seneca and Haudenosaunee artisans. At this time of year many of us are looking to give meaningful gifts, so giving a handcrafted piece by a master Native artisan absolutely fits the bill.
This family-friendly day features:
·
Shopping for Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) made gifts
·
Storytelling (11 am and 2 pm) and children’s crafts
·
Wampum-making workshop (time TBD, led by Master Artisan Rich Hamell
·
Corn husk doll workshop (2 pm, led by Master Artisan Ronnie Reitter, Seneca)
·
Iroquois White Corn-inspired food for purchase
·
Silent auction and raffles
The silent auction highlight is a limited edition, framed canvas print of The Great Treaty of Canandaigua 1794, signed and numbered by the artist, Robert Griffing. Framed in burled wood by Griffing himself, the size is approximately 3½ x 2½ feet.
Admission to the show is free, but regular gallery fees apply for exhibit viewing. Corn husk doll workshop cost is $20, wampum-making workshop cost is TBD. Registration is first come, first served beginning at 10 am. The Seneca Art & Culture Center is located at 7000 County Road 41, Victor. For more information, visit www.ganondagan.org.
