The program includes two works by Vivaldi – his Concerto in D Major, written for lute but performed here on guitar, and his Double Concerto in G Major (normally performed on two mandolins, but performed here on guitars). Turlough O'Carolan was a blind Celtic harper, composer, and singer and is considered by many to be Ireland's national composer. His Concerto – here for cello and guitar – is probably his most famous composition and was inspired by the music of Corelli. The program also includes O’Carolan’s "Farewell to Music," Corbetta’s Suite in C Major, and Couperin’s Pieces en Concert.
Featuring: Timothy Shannon, guitar; Warner Iverson, guitar; Shannon Nance, violin; Molly Werts McDonald, violin; Olita Povero, viola; Kathleen Murphy Kemp, cello; Joseph Werner, harpsichord
Admission at the door is $10 per person, with a $20 family maximum. A “meet the artists” reception follows the concert.
The Spotlight on Faculty concert series is generously supported by Hochstein donors. It is also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
