Trees for Trails
*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 01/17/2026
Give your Christmas tree a second life by donating it to Trees for Trails at the Helmer Nature Center in Irondequoit! Through January 17, you can drop off your whole (undecorated) tree to help support local trail maintenance. Be sure to remove all bags, ornaments, and wire before dropping off. Please note: no clippings, wreaths, yard waste, or debris are accepted, and the final drop-off time is 12 p.m. on January 17. Volunteers will be available to assist with unloading on January 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
| Local residents have been donating their Christmas trees to our Trees for Trails event since 1976. The Nature Center accepts trees from Christmas until mid-January, when High Falls Tree Service and Irondequoit Lawn & Landscape come to transform the trees into wood chips. Volunteers help unload trees and spread the chips, which will control erosion on our trails all year.
