Featuring Madrigalia, Cary Ratcliff, artistic director; Kevin Nitsch, piano; and Joanna Bassett, flute. Our annual celebration of the holiday season with the choral chamber ensemble Madrigalia. Madrigalia’s expansive interpretation of the December holidays includes celebrations both sparkling and thoughtful. These include songs of winter and hope for the new year as well as carols and folk songs sung in German, Spanish, Igbo, Basque, Latin, and Hebrew. Since 1975, Madrigalia has distinguished itself as one of the finest chamber choirs in Rochester and western New York. The ensemble is known for its quality performances of challenging and wide-ranging repertoire in this golden age of choral music. Madrigalia appointed Cary Ratcliff as Artistic Director in 2014, subsequently producing two recordings, collaborating with area artists, and commissioning and premiering new works. The Hochstein School’s free noontime Live from Hochstein concert series will be hosted by WXXI Classical’s Mona Seghatoleslami and broadcast live. This annual display features dozens of cleverly designed and deliciously decorated gingerbread creations, scattered throughout the festively-decorated George Eastman Museum, created by community members and organizations. All of the gingerbread creations are available in an online silent auction.
