Blacksmithing Workshop - Tapers

Workshops are an excellent way to learn & explore blacksmithing. Our instructors will use a combination of lecture, demonstration, & hands-on instruction at the forge to enhance your learning experience. These classes focus on the fundamental techniques in blacksmithing & can include tapering, bending & straightening, upsetting, twisting, punching, cutting, joinery & hammer control.

Learn the fundamentals of hammer control and drawing out stock. Tapering is simply a gradual reduction in cross section toward a set point in the material. It is the primary skill of a blacksmith and a bladesmith.
- (1) 8-hour class period: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Experience required: None
- Age requirements: 16 years and above
- All materials and safety equipment included
- Class includes steel, fire, heat, and flame
- Breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided. If you have any dietary restrictions, please contact the Arc + Flame Center at least 72-hours in advance.
