Cyanotype Mini-Quilts with Devin Gray Hull (@dev.gra.hull) on Wednesday, July 19 - Aug. 30 from 6 - 9pm.
The cyanotype process is unique in that it is one of the few photographic processes which can be printed easily onto fabric. Utilizing the techniques of photographic and textile art, students will learn the cyanotype process and make compositions using multiple cyanotype images or photograms to form a small, quilted object.
This class is open to those who are new to photography, cyanotype, and/or sewing. Throughout seven sessions students will learn how to prepare and expose cyanotype on fabric, learn how to prepare an image to be made into a digital negative, and the basic techniques to make a quilt. Students will choose between hand sewing and machine sewing and learn basic stitches as well as how to bind a quilt. Students will leave the class with one 18” x 18” size (max) quilted object.
Prior sewing ability is helpful but not necessary. It is encouraged to bring your own sewing machine if able, however, it is not required. This class will teach both hand stitching and machine stitching. (If interested, sewing machines can be rented from Monroe County Library System and used in this class)
