Family Archeology Weekend

The weekend will explore archaeology as a citizen science, or an area in which the public can participate in scientific research.
Shuttles running all day will take you from the Cumming Nature Center Visitor Center to the site of the Hall Homestead on Frost Town Road where sifting equipment, excavation grids and guided activities will be waiting. Visit various stations to experientially learn archaeological disciplines, excavation techniques and artifact dating. Uncover the stories of the past as the Nature Center team interprets items previously found by students working at the homestead site.
Venture across the road on a guided tour of the Gulick Gorge Cemetery, as well, to find cemetery grave markers from the 1800s.
While you're near the Nature Center, plan to pack a lunch and complete your day with a hike on the Cumming Nature Center trails, including the well-known cathedral red pine stand and the 35-acre beaver pond.
