The 38th edition of the Lakeside Winterfest will return to the icy shores of Lake Ontario on February 3 and 4th. The beach and park will be packed with family activities including the ever popular Chilly Chili Challenge where local restaurants and others via for the title of Rochester’s Best Chili. Also returning this year, local ice carvers creating icy masterpieces, horse drawn sleigh/wagon rides through the park, wine and craft beer tasting, hot chocolate, coffee and bagels for sale from the CCA as well as other food vendors and ‘rockin’ music all afternoon in the heated festival tent by the Neil Van Dorn Band. Bring your skates and glide over the synthetic ice at the County operated rink at the park. The City’s Rec on the Move staff will keep the young ones busy with winter activities and other vendors and local organizations will be present. New this year, a snowmobile display and demonstration by the Webster RidgeRunners and information from the Rochester Curling Club.

For snow sculpture enthusiasts, enter the annual contest. Eric Jones, professional snow sculptor, will be creating a huge masterpiece and giving tips to amateur contestants. This year’s theme is, “Rochester landmarks”. Cash prizes will be awarded, register at the Roger Robach Center on the morning of the event starting at 9 am. Judging will take place at 2 pm.
The day will be capped off by a fireworks display over the river at 6:00 pm afterwards visit one of the areas many restaurants for dinner. Some will feature menu specials and entertainment.
Sunday, features the Polar Plunge, over 2000 brave souls are expected to take the Plunge to support Special Olympics New York at 12 pm. Come down and cheer them on or experience the Plunge yourself , registration and complete information are available at www.polarplunge.net.

The Ontario Beach Park Program Committee and Special Olympics New York, sponsor the weekend’s events, with generous support from Wegmans, GREENLIGHT networks, City of Rochester, Monroe County, the Charlotte Neighborhood Association, and Law Enforcement Torch Run, WPXY and others.
