Rochester, NY – September 8, 2025: One in 26 people in the United States will develop epilepsy sometime during their life. This October, Epilepsy Alliance of West Central New York, the epilepsy division of Empowering People’s Independence (EPI), is raising awareness about epilepsy with the One in 26 Challenge. The One in 26 Challenge in Rochester, NY features an accessible one mile walk in Seneca Park starting and ending at the Longhouse Shelter. The route is paved, and we welcome participants of all abilities.
EPI will host the one-mile, group walk event on:

Time: Check-In & Onsite Registration – 8:00am
Walk – 9:00am
Games & Activities – 9:30-11:00am
Location: The Longhouse Shelter at Seneca Park, 2222 St. Paul Street, Rochester, NY 14621
Free registration is open for KOAA and Beyond the Nest readers is open now! Use code ONE26-KOAA at checkout! Registration includes a free ticket to the Seneca Park Zoo to be used the day of the event (October 5, 2025). Online registration is available at www.epiny.org. Participants will receive a One in 26 t-shirt, and we will have face painting, a bounce house, fall treats by Chef Jaime Villani, and more!
Proceeds from the One in 26 Challenge will benefit EPI and its epilepsy programs and services that provide support for thousands of children and adults with epilepsy across Upstate and Central New York. Services include education, support, training, advocacy, and tailored care plans to meet the physical, behavioral, and social needs of each person we serve.
