Upcoming Lecture:
Dinosaurs: Beyond the Bones
December 1 | 7pm
Speaker: Dr. Sara Burch, Ph. D.
How do we take a pile of jumbled bones and figure out what an extinct animal looked like, or how it lived? During this lecture, we'll discuss the ways that paleontologists use information about modern animals to understand the biology of dinosaurs, including how they moved, grew, ate, and interacted with the world around them. What we know about dinosaurs has shifted dramatically over the years, and we’ll look through how it’s changed and what the latest research in the field has to say about these fascinating animals.
Speaker Bio
Dr. Burch is an associate professor of biology at SUNY Geneseo who studies the evolution and behavior of extinct animals. Her studies of dinosaur anatomy have taken her around the globe, including to museums in China and Argentina, and on paleontological digs in Madagascar and Tanzania. Originally from Kentucky, Dr. Burch studied at the University of Chicago and Stony Brook University before coming to Geneseo, where she teaches courses on dinosaurs, birds, and human anatomy and physiology.
