HAUDENOSAUNEE DAYS

Celebrate Haudenosaunee culture — past and present — and celebrate the vibrant art of our region’s Native American people. You'll meet Haudenosaunee artists and learn first-hand about the tradition of making cornhusk dolls, jewelry, quillwork, and baskets, and how these artists bring the traditions of their culture to life through their art. Hear traditional Haudenosaunee storytellers and explore the RMSC’s galleries of world-leading Haudenosaunee collections, as well as objects not usually on public display.
During the event, there will be:
- Scheduled presentations from 3 different storytellers
- Artist demonstrations throughout the Museum & Science Center galleries
- Collections from the Indian Arts Project will be on display from the RMSC Collections vault

MAKE YOUR OWN CORN HUSK DOLL WORKSHOP
April 30 and May 1 | 2-3pm
Location: Museum & Science Center Mezzanine
Learn the traditional, Haudenosaunee art of creating corn husk dolls. Veronica Reitter (Seneca, Wolf Clan) is hosting TWO beginners-level workshops to share her knowledge of this craft and to give our visitors hands-on experience. Each ticket reserves two spots in our hour-long workshop, making a perfect moment for you and your child to learn together. The best part? You get to bring your doll home with you to share with the rest of your family and friends!
Workshop is free with general admission, but space is limited. Advanced registration is required.

ABOUT VERONICA REITTER
Veronica (Ronnie) Reitter (Seneca, Wolf Clan) brings her skills in sewing and designing regalia to the art of “dressing” her cornhusk dolls. She learned to make cornhusk dolls by observing Mattie Young and Lillian Kane, Seneca Elders and traditional artists who are revered for the quality of their cornhusk dolls. More recently, Ronnie has learned how to create other kinds of traditional Haudenosaunee cornhusk work, such as cornhusk mats, moccasins, salt bottles, tobacco baskets and containers.
