Home school Classes Spring 1

We’re not your typical classroom! Camp Arrowhead offers 55 acres of fields, creeks, and wooded areas for your homeschooler to explore. Each Wednesday, students will learn though hands-on activities that focus on a variety of topics.

We’re not your typical classroom! Camp Arrowhead offers 55 acres of fields, creeks, and wooded areas for your homeschooler to explore. Each Wednesday, students will learn though hands-on activities that focus on environmental, cultural, historical, and scientific topics.

Children, ages 5-15, will be broken up by age groups wherever possible. The program will run from9:30 am to 1:30 pm each Wednesday.  We highly recommend registering ahead for supply and staffing purposes.

 Please be sure to let us know of any dietary restrictions and/or allergies, as we may be making time-period snacks during the day or using food in activities.  Your homeschooler should be prepared for each class with weather-appropriate attire, a lunch, water, and sneakers.  There will need to be a minimum of 6 children to run any week’s programming.

 

 

YMCA Family Members- $35 per class; $28 per class when you register for all 7 classes

Program Members- $45 per class ; $38 per class when you register for all 7 classes.

 

Bring a friend! Bring someone new to the class and your friend will receive $10 off the first class while you receive $5 off one class or $10 off the session. One friend per child per session .


 Sibling Discount: Receive $15 off each additional child when you register for the entire session

Class Topics:

April 13: Keep your Head in the Clouds-- During this class the students will learn about different cloud types. What do different clouds mean and why do they form? We will discuss why it is useful to know the difference and how it can help us prepare.

 

April 20: It's Bananas!-- IT’S NATIONAL BANANA DAY! The class will be learning about the fine fruit as we craft and experiment with bananas all day long. We will end the day with a nice banana boat around the fire!

 

April 27: Volcanos-- The team will be discussing where volcanos are most common and why they form. Through experiments we will see learn the difference between magma and lava. Each student will create their own volcano to bring home and share with their family!

 

May 4: Cinco de Mayo-- Class will be learning about the Battle of Puebla and how it helped push Mexico towards their independence. Why was this victory so important? Find out more about the 5th of May with us in class!

 

May 11: Lean To Crew/Service Project-- The group has decided they would like to participate in a service project at Arrowhead. For this class the group will be restoring the lean-to. During our time together we will be using sandpaper, tools, paint, and some elbow grease to leave a lasting mark at Arrowhead.

  

May 18: Paper Making-- Learn the art of papermaking! Students will learn the process of creating new paper from scraps. The class will be able to take their papers home with them and create a journal to store all their bright ideas in!

 

May 25: Worm Farm-- The group will be creating a worm farm while they learn how these small critters help our produce and environment. Students will have the opportunity to touch and feel worms as we discuss their anatomy.
