Homeschool Classes Winter II

We’re not your typical classroom! Camp Arrowhead offers 55 acres of fields, creeks, and wooded areas for your homeschooler to explore. Each Wednesday, students will learn though hands-on activities that focus on environmental, cultural, historical, and scientific topics.
Children, ages 5-15, will be broken up by age groups wherever possible. The program will run from9:30 am to 1:30 pm each Wednesday. We highly recommend registering ahead for supply and staffing purposes.
Please be sure to let us know of any dietary restrictions and/or allergies, as we may be making time-period snacks during the day or using food in activities. Your homeschooler should be prepared for each class with weather-appropriate attire, a lunch, water, and sneakers. There will need to be a minimum of 6 children to run any week’s programming.
YMCA Family Members- $35 per class; $28 per class when you register for all 6 classes
Program Members- $45 per class ; $38 per class when you register for all 6 classes.
Bring a friend! Bring someone new to the class and your friend will receive $10 off the first class while you receive $5 off one class or $10 off the session. One friend per child per session .
Sibling Discount: Receive $15 off each additional child when you register for the entire session

DNA- February 24th: It’s in our DNA at Arrowhead to educate and inspire. Activities will be centered around genetics and how we receive our DNA. What makes our DNA unique? What does DNA look like? How does DNA help us grow? Find out and learn a little more about yourself.
Save It or Spend it- March 2nd: This class will begin by learning about the progression of the American Dollar from a trade and barter system. Students will develop an understanding of the value of money and learn about debt. Through games and activities students will have to make tough decisions on if they would like to save their money, invest, or spend.
Day of Awesomeness- March 9th: March 10th is officially the ‘Day of Awesomeness’. We will spend March 9th learning about people who awesomely served their communities and broke barriers. History, education, extreme sports, and cooking are just a few of the awesome topics we will dive in to. Students will have a chance to share their ideas on how they can change the world to make it a better place.
Rockets, Blast-off!- March 16th: Bring your scientific side to class as we explore rockets. Throughout the day we will build a variety of rockets that require chemical reactions to launch. We will also go over famous space shuttles and NASA launches.
Manatees- March 23rd: Spend a day learning about this 1,000 pound mammal. Students will walk away knowing the habitat and behavior of Manatees. We will also discuss how warming ocean temperatures and climate change is effecting the population. Learn some fun facts that you can share on March 30th— Manatee Appreciation Day!
Arrowhead Records- April 6th: During this class we will take a look at some crazy and astonishing world records set by people or all ages. During class we will be setting some Arrowhead individual and group records that will require concentration, determination, and teamwork.
